What should the churches response be to Gun Violence?

Mass Shootings aren't going anywhere as long as gun lobbyist dump millions of dollars into the GOP and line the pockets of politicians. There are churches of every denomination in every community affected by these horrific tragedies. So how should we respond after we have prayed for the families of victims, buried those whom we love and serve and morn? Churches must unite around the one common link that holds all of us together, humanity. We all should have a right to live peaceably, without the fear of being gunned down during worship, or at the grocery store, our place of employment or the doctors office. The Right to Life is not an abortion issue, it's a humanity issue. Every human being is entitled to a full life!

Laws must be changed. Guns should not be the answer during difficult or challenging times. Teenagers should not be able to walk into an outdoors store, or some online gun store and purchase a weapon that is created for the sole purpose of killing multiple people in a short amount of time. People must change. We have a greater understanding of Mental Health in the 21st century than any generation before us. It is imperative that we use the information and knowledge that we have to save humanity from itself. Law abiding citizens must recognize the need for this reform and embrace it. The church must stand up and be the voice for the voiceless, the unheard, the marginalized and the weak. Our people resources and financial resources must be put to good use through lobbying, and holding our elected officials accountable.

The voice of the Black Baptist Church must be heard. Not just when we have neighborhood shootings. But also when the nation is seemingly morning every week because of multiple losses of life due to gun violence and mass shootings. We can do this, as long as we take a stand together. We can no longer afford to remain silent, while the lives of our future generations are weighed in the balance. We must and we shall.
